David L. Briggs
Geological and Drilling & Completions Advisor

David spent the majority of his academic and working life in the oil and gas industry.  High school summers were spent as a roustabout worker and relief pumper.  During his time in college, Briggs worked one summer at an internship for Sun Oil Company, where he was introduced to oilfield management.  Additional summers were spent as a roustabout, tool dresser on a completion rig, and roughneck on a rotary drilling rig.

Upon graduation from college with his degrees in petroleum technology and geology, David entered his family-owned and Illinois Basin-based oil business, Ecus Corporation, where he managed drilling, completion, and production operations for approximately 600 oil wells.  Additional duties consisted of subsurface geological evaluation for prospect development and well site geology.  During the three years at Ecus Corporation the company drilled an average 70 wells per year.

In the 1980’s David developed drilling prospects and performed wellsite geology and drilling and completion supervision for several independent oil companies.  From 1984 to 1988 David was co-owner and President of Trans-American Drilling Corp., an oil and gas rotary drilling and completion rig service company based in Evansville, Indiana.

In the 1990’s when the oil industry was economically depressed, David worked as an environmental specialist for Mid Central Environmental Services and Environmental Consulting and Engineering Company, both of Evansville, Indiana.  His duties consisted of environmental compliance management and project management for Phase I, II, & III environmental assessments, including installation of water monitoring wells and installation and management remediation projects.

In 1998 David performed a feasibility study for the Federal EPA to develop environmental regulations for centrifuging solvent wipers.  This project consisted of developing a testing protocol and performing the tests.  The proposed regulations were still under environmental impact review for promulgation.  Because of this activity David designed a patented mobile recycling system for solvent wiper and absorbent recycling programs primarily for the auto industry, specifically for General Motors, Chrysler, and Honda.  Subsequently, David formed Mobile Fluid Recovery, Inc. where he was co-owner and President.  Recycling activities consisted of reclaiming polypropylene solvent wipers and polypropylene absorbents into raw material for vehicle parts.  Absorbent recycling was also developed where absorbents were reused many times before being discarded or recycled and recovered liquids were also reclaimed for reuse.  The customer base developed by David consisted of General Motors, DaimlerChrysler Corporation, and later Chrysler Corporation, Honda North America, Subaru, Berry Plastics, Waste Management, Heritage Environmental, Ashland Environmental, MPS, and Environmental Quality, among others smaller companies. Additionally while at Mobile Fluid Recovery, David recognized the need to recycle Asian cardboard instead of disposing of it in landfills. Therefore, he co-developed the QuietShield product with Federal Mogul Corporation by recycling Asian cardboard into acoustic components for vehicle parts.  The first parts made were installed in the Buick Lacrosse.

In 2006 David's work in the oil and gas industry ramped back up, and he performed well site geology services, EPA compliance consulting, and completion and production supervision.  Specifically, well site geology and drilling supervision were performed for Penn Virginia and Approach Resources, among others.  Also during this time he managed a field project to test the effectiveness of radio frequency (RF) heating for production of heavy oil.

From April 2010 to December 2010 David developed the Mobile Fluid Recovery’s BP Deep Water Horizon gulf oil spill recycling project.  In collaboration with BP, Waste Management, Heritage Environmental, Lucent Polymers, Goshen Die Cutting, and General Motors, Mobile Fluid Recovery utilized their patented process to successfully recycle the gulf oil boom into GM Chevy Volt vehicle parts.  Activities consisted of developing a business plan and presenting the plan to BP and General Motors.  David worked closely with John Bradburn of General Motors to organize the supply chain to accomplish this unique and successful recycling project.  He also worked with the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality to gain approval for the recycling program. From August 2012 to present David has performed geological consulting activities for CountryMark Energy Resources, LLC, where his duties consist of managing well site geological activities, including drill cutting analysis, selection of core points, core description and core data analysis, interpretation of geophysical logs, subsurface mapping, and cataloging and ranking of PDNP and PUD opportunities across CountryMark's vast acreage portfolio.

David is a Registered Professional Geologist (KY-1672) and is a m
ember of the Indiana-Kentucky Geological Society; a member of the Kentucky Oil & Gas Association, a member of the Indiana Oil & Gas Association, a member of the Independent Oil Producers Association. He obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Geology from Indiana University in 1977 and an Associate’s Degree in Applied Science in Petroleum Technology from Lincoln Trail Jr. College in 1973. David's awards include:
  • Daimler-Chrysler 2001 and 2005 International “Environmental Leadership Award
  • General Motors North American Operation 2004 Environmental “We Care Award”
  • General Motors 2011 “Environmental Excellence Award”
David's patents include:
